While their 2010 "Heavy Soul Sessions" was a live studio mix of new material and recycled tracks, the brand new "The Trip" is actually Djam Karet's first real studio album since the 2005 "Recollection Harvest". The long wait for a new output of the band from Los Angeles wasn't worth it. "The Trip" consists of just one single 47-minute track. It takes 18 minutes until the first drum set ever sounds and some rhythm comes up. Until then there were only ambient sounds: noises, a few guitar notes and drones. Of course the Djam Karet universe always consisted of the two worlds Ambient and instrumental Artrock. But here it is arduous. Clearly: From minute 18 "The Trip" is mercilessly good: a sluggish groove, a long guitar solo, surrounded by warm organ sounds. Ten minutes, that's how it goes. But that's what Djam Karet used to offer a lot of. The bottom line is that it is not enough here, because only from minute 38 on is spacer rocked again for seven minutes like with Hawkwind.
