The gentlemen Juárez (bass), Torres (guitar, vocals) and Castro (drums) and Frau Camelo (keyboards, vocals) know and master all artrock tricks. The Mexican quartet proves this on their debut "Lux Interna" right in the opener "Obscuridad": a slowly increasing intro, then crisp guitar riffs, various mood changes and sometime furious synthesizer and guitar solos. It's a mix of IQ and Riverside. And that's really exciting. Unfortunately, Ekos do not maintain this quality. Without a doubt all of the following solos on keyboards and guitars - and there's plenty of them - can convince. But there is still a lack of songwriting skills and tension building. Some things look artificially composed (like in the 21-minute "Apocalipsis", which offers various good moments). Despite the beautiful organ carpet, the title track is very greasy. And the ballad "Rostro Oculto" doesn't know how to touch. Only "La Huida Del Infierno" convinces again, by tempo and bite and with surprising sounds. Ekos have potential. All you have to do is get the most out of it.
