Portugal followed for years. The Man's cloying album tour album routine, as if they were still alive in the seventies. So not a year without a new work and after a small odyssey with various indie labels they even ended up at the Major Warner and, for this new album, under the wing of producer Danger Mouse. However, he has lost some of his hipness in recent years, perhaps because he too often got involved in such projects. To be honest, Portugal. The Man ran out of compositional air years ago. And so this album is the same as the last one: In the beginning they are still completely enraptured by the exalted Weirdo-Pop of the band from Alaska. But at the latest after the third song there are signs of fatigue in the band and the listeners. What really stands out, however, is the refinement of the sound by the magic hands of Danger Mouse. Somehow Portugal sounds now. The Man, as you've always wanted it to be: big, sublime, pathetic and yet playful. All we need now is some good song ideas.
