Drummer Magnus Öström took a little longer than his former colleague, bassist Dan Berglund, to escape the long shadow of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio. On his second album "Searching For Jupiter", however, he has shed all sadness and dismay and sets off for new stars. Its crystalline clear sounds are not necessarily only accessible to jazz lovers. His preference for the music of Pat Methenys can also be heard here. Especially in the Unisoni passages guitarist Andreas Hourdakis and keyboarder Daniel Karlsson remind us strikingly of Metheny and his partner Lyle Mays. But also the dramaturgically wide, ostinato-rich bows are based on the Pat Metheny Group. The interplay of the instruments results in orchestral overtones. Only the poetic transfiguration of some pieces preserves the typical Nordic note that we know from many Scandinavian productions.
