What do you say about albums that are not categorized? To bands that pretty much sit between chairs? To musicians who open a new colourful barrel with every song and confuse the listener time and time again? Alcoholic Faith Mission from Denmark is such a band that does not want to be accommodated in any category: Is that what she offers on Ask Me This, Postrock, Freakfolk or Indiepop? You can't say it with certainty: Already the first song "Down From Here" is so rich in references, ideas and styles that you get dizzy, because it starts as a kind of chorale to end with horns. Then follows "Alaska", a veritable pop song with a haunting melody, but arranged in such a crazy way that at some point you don't know where is up or down. It's similar with "Into Pieces", in which an avant-garde piano motif meets throbbing drums. And so the ten songs continue happily for a long time: Each piece is its own gem. Like arcade fire without the lyrical pathos. Or like Portugal. The Man, if they wrote good songs. So indispensable.
