WOLF PEOPLE - Risen from Ruins

In 2005 singer and guitarist Jack Sharp had the idea for Wolf People. Together with the second guitarist Jon Hollick, drummer Tom Watt and bassist Dan Davies they went on their musical journey, where they were compared with all kinds of rock and folk heroes - from Jethro Tull to Fairport Convention to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Sharp explains why the band is in such a good mood right now.

eclipsed: First, a question of understanding. Even though I haven't discovered any stringent concepts: Is "Ruins" a concept album?

Jack Sharp: Some songs are connected by the idea of how a world without people would work. Hence the title "Ruins". But it is not a continuous story and therefore not a concept album.

eclipsed: After all, the track "Kingfisher" runs through the album in three parts..

Sharp: If there's a song on the album that I'd pick out, it's "Kingfisher", so the two reprise parts are all right.

eclipsed: "Ruins" sounds more gripping than your previous recordings. Was that the plan?

Sharp: That's exactly it, there was definitely a plan. "Ruins" was supposed to be a heavy rock album.

eclipsed: Because it matched the texts, illustrated them best?

Sharp: You could say that in retrospect, but it was just that this band developed more and more recently. And we also discovered the proto-heavy rocker Iron Claw. We just thought that shorter songs with heavy guitar riffs should be our thing right now.

eclipsed: Sounds like destiny?

Sharp: It just fitted now. But I can't and don't want to rule out that we will sound completely different on the next or the album after next. I find it boring when the music of a band is predictable. Wolf People will always stay in flux. I think when a band stops developing, it doesn't make sense anymore.
