On her last albums, the 30-year-old guitarist and singer tried her best to expand her sound spectrum, and in the process crept away from her real strength: blues rock. However, Samantha Fish apparently can't make up her mind about her private life either and switches back and forth between a place of residence in Louisiana and her actual hometown Kansas City. "I often make decisions very intuitively. That always feels good at the moment!" She has integrated Americana, Soul and Gospel into her sound canon. "That's how I grew up." But in her deepest core she is still a rocker. The fact that she also has a variable and multi-faceted voice doesn't harm a blues rock song at all.
"Kill Or Be Kind", her new album, now offers both: catchy songs, which could also come from some other Blues-Soul twitter, and solid killer songs, which breathe the Blues and let you guess that the woman is not averse to classical and modern rock songs of the harder kind. "Of course I also like it hard, from AC/DC to Five Finger Death Punch to Black Stone Cherry. That doesn't mean that I'm cribbing them, but of course I have such music in the back of my mind. I must and will try to find a good balance between such sounds and traditional songs and styles, which I like just as much"
