Die SMALL FACES feiern den Fünfzigsten ihres Psychedelic-Klassikers „Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake“

In May 1968 the Small Faces released "Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake". An album that caused a sensation not only because of its spectacular cut-out cover, but also because of the story of a man who sets out in search of the lost half of the moon. The classic will be re-released in various formats on the fiftieth anniversary of its release. We talk to small faces drummer Kenney Jones (70) about the timelessness of this milestone.

eclipsed: Why is Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake so popular today?

Kenney Jones: Because it's a great album and people love it. It was also one of the first concept albums in rock history. But above all, the record lives on. It always wins new generations for itself because it contains timeless music. And I myself have by no means finished it. I'm currently working on an animated film for "Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake", which tells the story, but at the same time spins it on.

eclipsed: What exactly are you up to?

Jones: It's one of the things I really have to do. I'm getting older, and you have to prioritize. When we wrote the concept, I found it very exciting, but let's be honest: the story is a bit thin. Of course it sounds great when it is told about an album in the context of songs, but if you write it down now there is not much left. The film should not only tell the story linearly and bring the old songs to it, but also integrate new songs I have written on in the last years.

eclipsed: New songs?

Jones: Yeah. Besides, Pete Townshend has assured me When I'm ready, he'll write one or two songs especially for it. He's a big fan of the record. I said to him 25 years ago that he simply had to contribute a few songs for it, and he just said: I'd love to, but only when you've finally finished the storyline! Now I am almost finished, and the film is, so to speak, in the pre-production phase. The animation story was great, it's basically finished, we just have to get the whole product together, it's a bit like a puzzle.
