After several years of musical quest, Sinéad O'Connor returned to her soul in 2011 and recorded an album full of emotional, catchy pop songs. Her new work follows there, at the same time she has refined her rediscovered style without relying on great innovations or even experiments. Admittedly this seems a bit lengthy at first hearing; the songs rush past you. Only the intensive "Harbour" gets stuck. But repeated enjoyment reveals the unbelievable attention to detail with which the Irishwoman proceeded in her twelve songs. This begins with the (possibly ironic) keyboard carpet that opens the album and immediately makes you think of "Nothing Compares 2 U", including a suddenly onset of the nineties drum computer. And it goes from the clattering blues of "The Voice Of My Doctor" and the subtle irony of "Your Green Jacket" to the successful attempt of a funk track ("James Brown"). An astonishingly moving album, but with its nuanced arrangements it's also a lot of fun.
