The name Angel Olsen will certainly seem familiar to some, without the American singer being immediately recognizable. And indeed: The lady who presents her second album with "Burn Your Fire For No Witness" is one of the numerous female voices of folk master Bonnie 'Prince' Billy; more precisely, her singing a few years ago refined one of his best records: "Wolfroy Goes To Town". Their own music has not so much to do with the gentle songs of the bard. Instead the listener finds himself in an oppressive universe of swamp blues, psychorock and dark, folkloristic sounds that are hard to beat in intensity. The album reminds in many places of the best works of PJ Harvey, but the highlight is the almost seven-minute long "White Fire", a piece in the best Leonard Cohen tradition, to which Angel Olsen, however, puts her very own stamp. A brilliant album of a new exciting female voice.
