CASPIAN - Live At Old South Church

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Postrock | Heft: Jahrgang 2012, eclipsed Nr. 138 / 3-2012 | VÖ-Jahr: 2012 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: Make My Day | Autor: CA

With almost thirty-five minutes to play, "Live At Old South Church" can't necessarily be considered a complete album. But it is limited to 1000 pieces and serves a good purpose on top of that. In addition, the five tracks of the first official CD live testimony of the post rockers offer an essential cross-section of their previous three albums with the appealing titles "You Are The Conductor", "The Four Trees" and "Tertia". The two longtracks "Last Rites" and "Sycamore" take up more than half of the playing time and form the frame for the rest of the tunes. The intensity of the performance gradually increases, a characteristic that is inherent to every Caspian gig. While there is only a slight guitar shimmer in the air at the beginning, the Caspian music gradually gains momentum, finally exploding its own sound universe. What otherwise makes up the suspense of a complete gig is fired here in half an hour.
