Even more than on the Swedes' first two albums, "With Them You Walk Alone" focuses on the guitar. The jam character that The Crystal Caravan have already hinted at is completely absent from the new album. That's not bad, because the six new songs are despite their length (two pieces are seven minutes long, one eight minutes) played exactly to the point, clearly have song character. And they don't lose that either when an extended guitar solo comes in between. The two guitarists don't get lumpen: One riff after the other is cut out, as it should be: catchy, crashing, in tune with the powerful drums and above all as if it came from the early Seventies. The abundance of déjà vu effects is quite deliberate. But what doesn't come from the seventies is the clear sound, the fresh power of the album. Of course this is stereotypical (except for the whirling percussions in "Brick By Brick" and the longing SloMo rock in "Drifting"). But let's be honest. What's the difference?
