The Custodian is the new project of the two Xerath musicians Richard Thomson (voc, synth, dr) and Michael Pitman (b, voc). While their regular combo offers a bombastic symphonic touch by technically sophisticated Djent, the two Brits have discovered their quieter side on "Necessary Wasted Time", which will also be a real pleasure for demanding rock listeners. Traditional prog sounds are embedded in a modern and organic overall sound, where the acoustic guitar often comes to the fore. "The Man Out Of Time" shows some parallels to the Brighton hopefuls of Sanguine Hum, which also focus on groove and unexpected harmonies. "Stop Talking" underlines with sophisticated vocals and casual acoustic guitar fills the relaxed basic attitude, which is missing for many fellow artists. Even if it gets more complicated ("Other People's Lives", with great bass parts), "Necessary Wasted Time" invites you to drop it - and even more with Schwelger songs like "Things We Tell Ourselves".
