Melancholic melodies to driving riffs are not exactly the classic ingredients of German-language rock music - the question to what extent this category has any aesthetic justification at all is left out. The debut of Erik Cohen alias Jack Letten lives on a distinctive hit appeal, which gets along very well with the emotional and dynamic force as well as the rough basic nature of the songs. The album is also to be understood as a liberation from Letten's time as a singer in the noise punk doom band "Smoke Blow": The band that is currently on ice after seven albums and tours in the support program of the Melvins and Toten Hosen. Cohen does without Screamo vocals and Stakkato riffs and is comparatively straightforward. But the desire for a full, if not danceable groove has remained. Some arrangements could have taken a shot of more refinement and the longing pathos of the lyrics, charged with maritime metaphor, may at times be intrusive. Nevertheless, it is difficult to escape the refreshing charm of these sweet and sour earwigs.
