The New York cellist Erik Friedlander is best known for his work with John Zorn. Despite his love for the avant-garde, he never made a secret of his affinity for bluegrass, folk and country. On the contrary, avant-garde and tradition always result in a complete cycle in his music. For his new CD "Bonebridge" he has now got a guitarist on board who comes from a completely different camp. Doug Wamble is a heavyweight on the country guitar. He already has relevant experience in jazz and calls Louis Armstrong his greatest role model. The two find the perfect symbiosis. Their sarcastic and yet very beautiful country jazz fantasies recommend themselves as a soundtrack for a road movie by Jim Jarmusch. Friedlander plays his cello almost exclusively pizzicato, which at times lends the lovingly bitchy dialogue of the two a touch of French gypsy music.
