Voodoo is said to have been practiced in the backwoods village of Korpilombolo in the far north-east of Sweden. If it's true, we can't say. But at least this would be a clever marketing trick, which the Gothenburg based band, which claims to come from there, supports by wearing masks and costumes at concerts. And their absolutely crazy mixture of Fusion, Afrobeat, Hard- and Acid-Rock, which could be called Experimental Fusion, is indeed musical Voodoo. The finest. For their 2012 debut "World Music" the mysterious combo had received a lot of praise. Now the successor is available. He begins like a meditation or seance with long echoing bells: "Talk To God" operates with bulky guitar rhythms, rumbling percussion and over-excited female singing. Then African guitar harmonies interfere as with Tamikrest. A maelstrom of instruments follows at the end. The following "Words" exudes unexpected sixties and indie charm. "The Light Within" travels this caravan road that lies between Desert Blues, the Rolling Stones and Tinariwen; a fast desert ride with guitarlicks wrapped around your neck like snares. "To Travel The Path Unknown" and "Goatchild" sound like forgotten psychedelic gems from the sixties, which have only recently been dug up again and are therefore still covered in clay. "Commune" contains considerably more psychedelic beat moments than the rather fusion-heavy work "World Music". The link between the two could be the piece "Hide From The Sun", which combines world music with sitasounds and blues rhythms. And "Gathering Of Ancient Trees" finally celebrates an orgiastic graduation party.
