"Reduction" is probably the expression that best describes the music of the Dutch duo Jodymoon. Often only thrown back on vocals and a mandolin, sometimes also a guitar and, more rarely, a piano, the songs try to enchant the listener. In fact, the whole thing seems extremely fragmentary, naked and underproduced, which doesn't have to be a bad thing at first. But somehow the music lacks the certain something that would justify the decision for this drastic reduction. There are few catchy melodies to be heard, there are few sublime moments to be heard, but mostly solid songwriting, transported by an equally solid voice. When at the end a song like the - admittedly strongly reminiscent of Sting's "Fragile" - piece "Money In Our Pockets" sounds with its wonderful melody, you can imagine what would have been possible. So much splashes along, albeit in courageous and intimate arrangements.
