Kamchatka, the power trio around former Opeth keyboarder Per Wiberg, who pumps the bass and sings here, arrived with "The Search Goes On" in 1972. But it doesn't matter, because it grooves like hell. Best example: Son Of The Sea. "Broken Man" would sound with a young Ian Gillan and more virtuoso guitars as if Deep Purple had cut this track out somewhere between "Fireball" (1971) and "Machine Head" (1972). The pleasant thing about "The Search Goes On" is that Wiberg (who also produced it), guitarist and singer Thomas Andersson and drummer Tobias Strandvik sound cool throughout, without any concern for it. There are no unnecessary squiggles, although one always has the impression that each of the three does exactly what he wants to do at this moment. "The Search Goes On" sounds like it was recorded live without an audience. There's not a single weak song on the album, but you won't find a track that will absolutely knock you out. But that's not so tragic, because the Swedish trio lives from the sound rather than the perfect song.
Top track: Son Of The Sea
