When an artist over 70 years old, whose last successful album was 24 years ago, calls his new work "Old Ideas", this can only be coquetry. Or a suitable description for his new songs? In recent years Leonard Cohen has - as he himself admits, for financial reasons - toured the world several times. But it speaks for itself that it did not only want to cash up, but let the creative juices flow again. And they must have been abundant when writing and recording "Old Ideas". Since "I'm Your Man" 24 years ago, the master hasn't released such a convincing collection of songs. The first seven of a total of ten songs are even great throughout. Sometimes epic ("Amen"), sometimes ironically old-fashioned ("Going Home"). And for the first time since 1974 there is a track that shows the classic Cohen: Naked, only his vocals and hauntingly plucked acoustic guitar. The voice has become even deeper, but it fits perfectly into the songs excellently arranged by Pat Leonard. Since "The Future" from 1992 only Cohen has been on autopilot, now he has taken the wheel again. No one really expected that.

Top track: Amen
