Good things take time - a saying that seems to have had its day in the current music business. Nevertheless, talented musicians stand up to short-lived trends without deeper content or substance. The Indiefolk duo Zoë Randell and Steve Hassett originally comes from Australia. And it takes its time on his album. So much so that in the opening piece "Small Window" one can actually lean out of the window as in the far less mechanized sixties/seventies and easily ponder one's thoughts. The music is reminiscent of that of the legendary Nick Drake. Melancholic, sparingly orchestrated, but very deeply touching the soul. The expressive folk of Sandy Denny and the lyrics of Leonard Cohen are also very close. "Without A Face" could easily be a lost Simon & Garfunkel title, vocally as well as aesthetically. The title track with its great gentleness in relation to dying stirs to tears. "Tangled Heart" or last "Star" follow with bigger orchestrated sixties charm. One quiet folk gem after another. Life in peace can be so beautiful.
