Maybeshewill have shown a pronounced do-it-yourself attitude since they were founded in 2006, with a corresponding lack of concern. The debut EP of the former student band from Leicester was released on their own label in 2008. The third album was produced by bassist Jamie Ward, who joined the band shortly before. The band has become a trademark over the years by incorporating samples from film and pop into their instrumental songs and crossing them with other sometimes daring electronic effects. And so the new album "Fair Youth" is full of sounds, which only really open up after the second or third run. For example, the second track, "In Amber", begins with a touch of TripHop, but then turns into a sound carpet dominated by keyboards, drums and finally also by brass and strings. The earthy and dynamic, almost pleasantly old-fashioned drum sound stands out especially pleasantly. But the band would like to develop even more versatile arrangements. Because even the most dazzling nuance is sometimes pushed into the background by felt or actual redundancy.
