"Performance" is the second album of a band from Liverpool that sounds like a mixture of Interpol and Depeche Mode, but without the concise, always central vocals that characterize both bands. The songs are especially captivating, similar to the newer Depeche Mode, because of the balance between classical rock songwriting and electronic arrangements. The consciously retarding, repetitive moment that distinguishes songs such as "Nothing Big" or "Performance" is reminiscent of Interpol. If you are still enthusiastic about the urgency of the songs at the beginning, then after three songs already and thus much too fast routine returns. So many things sound the same and therefore a bit banal in the long run. That's a pity, because there are strong moments on "Performance", especially the rousing opener "Nothing Big", which could have set the direction.
