"Discretion: unobtrusiveness, restraint" - this is a character trait that can actually be ascribed to the new, fourth collaboration of the congenial duo Travis/Fripp without any cutbacks. One hadn't heard too much from the master of dreamlike guitar loops and self-created Frippertronics, Robert Fripp, lately. The announcement of a new, seven-headed King Crimson incarnation caused quite a stir. And Travis enriched Steven Wilson's last activities with his effective flute and saxophone playing. With "Discretion" the two exceptional musicians found each other again. The 'discreet' interplay of guitar sounds manipulated by countless effects and hidden flute sounds leads to soundscapes that only Fripp & Travis are able to create in this form. Only from time to time, in the finale of "Rotary Symmetrical" and in the brilliant tribute to the KC past, "Rhapsody On The Theme From Starless", powerful outbursts can be heard that were not to be expected.
