Before enjoying the new album of MC Taylor alias Hiss Golden Messenger you should get familiar with the history of its creation, otherwise you might be surprised by the strange sound and the amateurish mix, the American still inspired in 2013 with his mature folk concept album "Haw. That "Bad Debt" sounds like Taylor sat down at his kitchen table and recorded a few songs with an old tape recorder is probably due to the fact that this is exactly how it happened. The present recordings date from before the artist's two previous albums. If you listen carefully, you will notice that you will find raw versions of some songs recorded later in more opulent arrangements. So it's no coincidence that the record reminds of Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska", it comes naked, only that the boss had at least one four-track recorder left on the kitchen table. An intimate insight into the work of a musician, naturally not without mistakes and in many places quite immature, but therefore no less fascinating.
