JOE HENRY - Invisible Hour

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Country | Heft: Jahrgang 2014, eclipsed Nr. 161 / 6-2014 | VÖ-Jahr: 2014 | Wertung: 7.5/10 | Label: Ear | Autor: SaS

Joe Henry is known to many music listeners for two main reasons: Firstly, he has been extremely active as a producer since the mid-nineties. Secondly, and this makes him known beyond the borders of the indie world, he is Madonna's brother-in-law and has already composed together with Madonna. The fact that Joe Henry has been releasing fantastic, haunting and above all idiosyncratic records for many years has not really got around yet. "Invisible Hour is in the tradition of monumental works like Scar. Henry takes his time to tell his sad stories, a song can last eight minutes and the listener remains spellbound in front of the speakers when the singer proves his outstanding storyteller talent. However, he also has a fine feeling for pop melodies, so that he can always wrap his countryesque, sometimes barren pieces in cotton wool or give them a catchy chorus. All in all a more than convincing Joe-Henry record again. It's time the good man finally got more hearing.
