Metal in streamlined form, Wall Of Sound with bite and tribal with unbridled power - on their third album the trio from New Zealand's Auckland do everything right. Anything. With "Pirohia" Kerretta have presented an album that can definitely be celebrated as a genre highlight. The handclapping in the opener "Ossein Trail" doesn't seem to be elated at all, too massive and massive is the excessive surrounding. The powerriffing, which for a trio is a mighty high spiral, comes with an intensity you haven't heard since the high and holy Big Black. "The Roar, on the other hand, tends more towards noise. With "Kawea Tãtou Ki Ngã Hiwi" Kerretta break open their self-imposed doctrine of completely instrumentally recorded music and present themselves for the first time with vocals. They come to Maori, which only underlines the martial orientation of this huge ovation. And "Sister, Come Home" possesses this very special post-rock flow, which has only been heard with such intensity in institutions like Tortoise so far.
