Nine years The Merlin Bird from Melbourne, Australia, took his time for his debut album "Chapter And Verse". His atmospheric art rock mixes elements of classical music, pastoral music, Far Eastern sounds and Anglo-American folk in a delightful way. In the core the band consists of Geoff Dawes and Dan Moloney, who play all instruments, but leave the vocal parts mostly to female musical guests. "It's really nice to be able to mix Gregorian chants with a bluesy sort of piano, and to crank up the power lead solo a few songs after your renaissance harpsicord number." - This statement of the two describes their music aptly. The work radiates a sacred mood; one feels transported by the organ sounds, mixed choirs and acoustic guitars to distant times and places that have one thing in common: that they are enchanted or enchanted. Symphonic folk with homely melodies meets cleverly composed and instrumented art rock with a discreet world musical attitude, as it could partly come from Kate Bush.
