Born in the USA and now living in Switzerland, singer Ron Cartel has collaborated with numerous luminaries of blues and jazz (Bernard Purdie, Dr. John, Gene Krupa). His current album sounds as if it was recorded in a cemetery in New Orleans - with a voodoo priest at the mixing desk. The really creepy introduction ("House Of Mojo Intro") is followed by heavy bar blues ("Bluesville"), intense acoustic blues ("God Moves On The Water"), hypnotic blues ("My World"), some soul jazz ("I Hurt Everybody") and swing ("Last Shirt"). Common characteristic: His unmistakable voice, which occasionally reminds of Willy DeVille, but is not so fragile. The album was topped up with one outtake and two rather average live tracks.
