The German progmetal band Thoughts Factory clearly has professionals at work. Guitarist Markus Wittmann and drummer Chris Maldener studied at the G.I.T. and the P.I.T. in Los Angeles and now teach at the Future Music School in Aschaffenburg - their expertise certainly helped to ensure that "Lost" has an international format. The eight songs in this conceptual work are about how someone processes the suicide of someone close to him. Musically, "Lost" contains various allusions to Dream Theater (especially the synthesizer and guitar solos). Minor criticisms: Some melodies could be even better adapted to the lyrics ("awakening") and the keyboard themes could have more recognition value. Moreover, the grave voice of the guest singer on "The Forest" doesn't seem fearsome at all, and the interpretation by front man Marcus Becker isn't aggressive enough to convey the nightmarish quality of this piece. With "No Way Out", on the other hand, Becker can easily compete with a vocal size like Arno Menses (subsignal) - and that means something.
