The Italian label Heavy Psych Sounds has launched a series of split CDs featuring several bands from the genre anchored in the label's name. Volume 1, with Naam, White Hills (all from New York), the Italians Black Rainbows and The Flying Eyes from Baltimore is a highlight of this series, because the seven tracks offered here are all true highlights. Naam's music is certainly simple in structure, but the dark remix of her "Skyscraper" is famous and the mysterious space sounds in "Thickening Web" surprise. White Hills inspire with an energetic mixture of Spacerock and electronic music. Black Rainbows are a bit stupid in "Viper Tongue", but convince with a gripping guitar melody, while their "Minor Monster Galaxy Message" progresses wonderfully tenaciously. And The Flying Eyes prove once again that they can combine gifted melodies and heavy psych. Another plus point of this split album, not to be underestimated, is that all seven tracks are unreleased so far. So also the best material for those who already have everything else.
