Ex-Purple singer David Coverdale wanted to create facts even before the release of his second work and founded David Coverdale's Whitesnake in February 1978, who presented themselves as a band for the first time in Great Britain on the "Northwinds Tour" in March. "It was not a lightning start that I made after leaving Purple in March 1976. With Roger Glover as producer and guitarist Micky Moody I recorded my [first] solo album in the summer of '76.

No other U2 album has been dissected by the press as maliciously as "Songs Of Experience". Some critics may have judged with a greater sense of proportion, but the fourteenth studio work of the Irish superstars will certainly not go down in history as a masterpiece. U2 play it safe with their contemporary stadium sound, but at the same time try to appeal to younger listeners. Bono admits this bluntly. Recently he explained that in times of Spotify you have to work more on the quality of the single song to get it on the radio. The times of clearly defined singles are finally over.
Kein U2-Album ist bislang von der Presse derart hämisch seziert worden wie „Songs Of Experience“. Manch ein Kritiker urteilte zwar mit größerem Augenmaß, doch als ein Meisterwerk wird die vierzehnte Studioarbeit der irischen Superstars sicher nicht in die Geschichte eingehen. U2 gehen mit ihrem zeitgenössischen Stadiosound auf Nummer sicher, versuchen sich aber gleichzeitig jüngeren Hörern anzubiedern. Das gibt Bono auch unumwunden zu. So erklärte er unlängst, dass man in Zeiten von Spotify mehr an der Qualität des einzelnen Songs arbeiten müsse, damit er ins Radio komme.
Erik Cohen is an artificial figure, as the singer, who listens to the middle-class name Daniel Geiger, emphasizes time and again. "He's definitely a musical outlaw, who also goes through the wall with his head. Like 'Theo against the rest of the world'," he explains in allusion to the 80s film with Marius Müller-Westernhagen. Meanwhile, Geiger knows his way around artificial figures, and for many years he has headed his band Smoke Blow as frontman Jack Letten.

Thematically, this time everything revolves around the eternal battle of good against evil. It burns up around "Amoretum", according to the album title, a Garden of Eden somewhere in space, the last place of its kind. A concept album then? "No, more like a song cycle around an idea," singer and guitarist JE explains. Like "Refugeeum", the title "Amoretum" is also an artificial word that refers to its content; it is composed of "Amore" (love) and "Aboretum" (a protected garden or park).
Thematisch dreht sich diesmal alles um den ewigen Kampf Gut gegen Böse. Er entbrennt um „Amoretum“, so der Albumtitel, ein Garten Eden irgendwo im All, der letzte Ort seiner Art. Ein Konzeptalbum also? „Nein, eher ein Liederzyklus um eine Idee herum“, erklärt Sänger und Gitarrist JE. Wie schon „Refugeeum“ ist auch der Titel „Amoretum“ ein Kunstwort, das auf den Inhalt hinweist; es setzt sich aus „Amore“ (Liebe) und „Aboretum“ (ein geschützter Garten oder Park) zusammen.
