Das Album rutscht durch. Das meint nicht, dass es keinen Eindruck hinterlässt, ganz im Gegenteil. „Breeder“, das zweite komplette Release des Quartetts aus Austin, Texas fasziniert mit einem hypnotischen Sound. Sämtliche Tracks sind überladen mit Zutaten aus allen erdenklichen Rockgenres. Klingt es manchmal so, als hätten sich Siouxsie And The Banshees in ihrer frühen Phase an einem sperrigen Kate-Bush-Spätwerk vergangen, entwickeln sie dabei immer noch einen unglaublichen Groove.

Oh how wonderful are the old 60s beat organ guitar sounds. What a mischievous charm these seemingly danceable rhythms and coquettish melodies possess. That's what Sonson must have thought. On their debut album "A Shine Below The Mound" (not including a 2013 EP), the Swedes know how to mix exactly the right amount of dirt and weirdness into their songs, so that they don't run the risk of drifting into too shallow or poppy climes.

Ach wie herrlich sind doch die alten 60er-Beat-Orgel-Gitarre-Sounds. Welch schelmischer Charme wohnt doch diesen scheinbar tanzbaren Rhythmen und koketten Melodien inne. Das werden sich auch Sonson gedacht haben. Die Schweden verstehen es auf ihrem Debütalbum „A Shine Below The Mound“ (eine 2013er EP nicht mitgerechnet), exakt die richtige Portion Schmutz und Schräge in ihre Songs zu mischen, so dass die keine Gefahr laufen, in allzu seichte oder poppige Gefilde abzudriften.

There are strange stories in the rock biz and this is certainly one of them: Ben Watt, musical head of the pop duo Everything But The Girl for twenty years, then internationally successful as a DJ, decides, after a serious illness, to take a break from his everyday life as a record player and record a withdrawn folk album. So far so good. The fact that such an unconventional, emotional, lyrical record would come out, however, borders on a miracle.

Es gibt seltsame Geschichten im Rock-Biz und diese ist sicher eine davon: Ben Watt, zwanzig Jahre lang musikalischer Kopf des Pop-Duos Everything But The Girl, dann als DJ international erfolgreich, entscheidet sich nach schwerer Krankheit, eine Auszeit von seinem Plattenaufleger-Alltag zu nehmen und ein zurückgenommenes Folk-Album aufzunehmen. So weit so gut. Dass dabei aber eine solch unkonventionelle, emotionale, lyrische Platte herauskommen würde, grenzt an ein Wunder.

Toto went to Lodz. Their anniversary tour to the 35th not only offers plenty of material from these 35 years, also some band members who had left the band in the meantime, like keyboard player and singer David Paich and lead singer Joseph Williams, are back. Williams, son of the famous film composer John Williams, was Toto's lead singer on the albums "Fahrenheit" (1986) and "The Seventh One" (1988). From these albums and from Toto XX (1998) - a compilation with hitherto unreleased songs - is available with the anniversary set.
