Sweet

Ein halbes Jahrhundert nach der Bandgründung: Andy Scott geht mit SWEET auf Geburtstagstour – und denkt gar nicht ans Aufhören

Andy Scott gave The Sweet for a maximum of ten years when he joined the band in 1970 - now the guitarist is going on an anniversary tour on the occasion of the band's foundation 50 years ago. The 68-year-old, who once led the formation from bubblegum pop to glam rock and hard rock, would have liked to have played birthday concerts together with bassist Steve Priest, who is mainly on tour in the USA with a group of the same name. But that won't happen, as Scott regrets in an interview with eclipsed.

eclipsed: To be honest, could you imagine going on that birthday tour in 2018 when you joined The Sweet?

Andy Scott: No, of course not.

eclipsed: A few years ago you announced one last Sweet tour. What's the situation now, will The Sweet continue?

Manic Street Preachers

Die MANIC STREET PREACHERS setzen wieder mehr auf Melodien, geben sich aber kampfeslustig wie eh und je

"It's pretty loud here," drummer Sean Moore apologizes right at the start of the call. The band's new studio is under construction. In fact, it hammers and drills in the background. In view of the unwritten law of the Manic Street Preachers to always allow a more conventional album to be followed by an experimental one, however, the question literally lies in the air as to whether the background noise might not also be an inspiration for the next work. "Why not?" Moore laughs back. "In the '80s I heard a lot of Einstürzende Neubauten, I really loved them. Maybe we should really think about a new sound!"

Trail , Underground

TRAIL - 100% Live, 100% DIY

Trail are a new quartet (Hergen: Gitarre, Henning: Gitarre, Jan: Bass und Nils: Drums) from Darmstadt, who missed www.trailmusic.de the five attributes psychedelic, stoner, blues, post and rock on their own website and now presents their debut album "Spaces", which presents a furious mixture of stonerrock, new artrock and alternative rock. eclipsed introduced the band in the rehearsal room.

eclipsed: Trail has been around for three years. How does it feel to have suddenly released an album?

Henning: It's something special with us, because three of us four have been making music together for 15 years. We only make the music we want. Everything is designed casually. It's a great thing that we now have an album out of it. And the fact that it has met with such a positive response is something we are celebrating quite well here.

Deep Purple

DEEP PURPLE - Made in England

"Deep Purple is the best thing that's happened to me in my life," says Ian Gillan, "and not a few music lovers around the world can join this statement for themselves. Deep Purple was created fifty years ago. For eclipsed, this special anniversary is one of the most important groups in the development of hard rock and in this and the next five issues the phenomenon Deep Purple will be highlighted from different angles. Half a century of lively rock history has written the formation once led by Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore. Beside great music the English produced, at least as long as Blackmore was part of the band, headlines concerning internal disputes. Where there's planing, chips fall.

Dukes Of The Orient , Asia , Asia Featuring John Payne

DUKES OF THE ORIENT - Melodies from the Orient

Asia Featuring John Payne are now Dukes Of The Orient. Erik Norlander, the protagonist of the new old band along with Payne, has been working with the bass player for a long time on a first album under a new banner. Musically, much has remained the same: AOR on the threshold to Melodic Prog, and everything at the highest level. And since they no longer use the expectant name Asia, listeners can get involved in this journey with the Orientexpress without being burdened.

The music of Dukes Of The Orient is not a lazy compromise. Even if it seems so at first glance, since Californian Erik Norlander loves British prog and Englishman John Payne loves the AOR sound of US-American coinage. After Geoff Downes had decided in 2006 to get back together with the original members of Asia, the rest of the Asia at that time around John Payne was quite dumbfounded.

Chris Farlowe , Colosseum

CHRIS FARLOWE - Falling out of time

Chris Farlowe is seventy years old and is still working the clubs. On stage the Londoner is a volcano - whether with the Hamburg Blues Band or with his own troupe. Almost exactly sixty years ago he began his career with the John Henry Skiffle Group. He performed his heroic deeds in the sixties ("Out Of Time") and in the seventies with Colosseum. Mick Jagger and Jimmy Page count him among their favorite singers. So it's a worthwhile undertaking to look back on eventful rock, blues and jazz rock decades with Farlowe before an HBB gig.
