Hardly anyone has left his musical scent mark on so many well-known colleagues: Phil Collins is now gathering his collaborations with other artists in the four CD retrospective "Plays Well With Others", which covers the years 1969 to 2002.
Not every good musician makes it to a pop star. But Phil Collins combines both. Hardly any pop artist has made it further in terms of success and musical mastery - Collins is Pop XXL and Sideman deluxe. In fact, apart from Paul McCartney, there is no musician who has brought more than 100 million records to customers worldwide, both with a band and as a solo artist. And if you look at the list of those who have secured Collins' services for their own projects, even the ex-Beatle can hardly keep up. The little Englishman became one of the most coveted accomplices of pop, with his stylistic spectrum covering all conceivable varieties of pop, rock, jazz and world music.
The start of the Remaster series of his solo work, "Take A Look At Me Now", brought Phil Collins back into the public consciousness. The reason for his absence from the media, apart from health problems (hearing loss in the left ear, numbness in the hands due to problems with the spine, and finally alcohol abuse) and his withdrawal into private life, was probably also the image that the media had drawn of him, which he saw as skewed. Reason enough to ask him questions about his life, infamous Twitter rumours and his future.
eclipsed: 45 songs in the deluxe edition and 33 on the double CD are a lot of wood. With such an extensive collection as "The Singles" it was certainly not difficult to choose the tracks. What was it like for you to present yourself as a hit supplier again?
Collins wears a black shirt, blue jeans and a hat that he has just bought, and despite his physical handicap is in good spirits. It has just become known that he is back together with his ex-wife Orianne - but now he is starting to talk about the big re-release project of his eight solo albums. After "Face Value" (1981) and "Both Sides" (1993) now "Hello, I Must Be Going!" is released (1982) and "Dance Into The Light" (1996).
eclipsed: Phil, how's your back?
Phil Collins: It will. If I stand long, it hurts.

NEIL YOUNG - The Indomitable
Even as a young singer, as a representative of the hippie generation, Neil Young didn't mince his words. And he has remained the most controversial, sometimes in the best sense of the word uninhibited spirit of rock music: The Canadian, who turns seventy on November 12, shows no signs of age-mild. In the following we show why it is so important that "the old man" is still there.
JEFF LYNNE'S ELO - Alte Schule
Geneva in July 2015: It is the hottest day of the year and Philip David Charles Collins sits sweating in his hotel suite. The air conditioner has resigned and the drinks are lukewarm. The 64-year-old flew in fresh from Miami just to cut himself from fatigue while shaving. A nasty wound gapes on his upper right cheek. And he doesn't exactly radiate the glamour of a man who has sold 250 million albums: Collins wears an unpretentious striped shirt with pleated trousers, slippers, a bald skull and thick glass bricks, but at the same time proves to be a humorous conversation partner who likes to chat about the new edition of "Face Value" and "Both Sides". The release of these successful albums marks the start of the retrospective of Phil Collins' solo work entitled "Take A Look At Me Now".
