MOGWAI - "I don't want to play in a jam band"

In 1995 Stuart Braithwaite and Dominic Aitchison founded the band Mogwai in Glasgow. Named after a Japanese demon, the Scots have so far inspired their audience on eight studio albums with a partly brute, partly melancholic wide-screen sound. For the 20th anniversary "Central Belters" will be released, a compilation of classics and rarities curated by the group itself on six LPs and three CDs. So it's a fitting occasion to talk to keyboarder and soundtracker Barry Burns about two decades of band history.

SAGA - Risky Puzzle

No risk, no fun. If Michael Sadler is to be believed, he and his band colleagues have not only followed this motto for 40 years in the music business - and not badly. Exactly 20 years ago was exactly such a moment. After the critically viewed album "Steel Umbrellas" it would have been easy for the Canadians to play it safe and record a more proggig CD with the classic Saga trademarks. But they went "all in". The choice fell on a concept album. "Generation 13" was the name of the almost 70-minute opus - no easy fare.

JEAN-MICHEL JARRE - A Short History of Electronic Music

We meet Jean-Michel Jarre, 67, at a luxury Berlin hostel to talk about his latest project, "Electronica 1 + 2". The Frenchman has invited 30 well-known musicians to record two concept albums with him - the DNA of electronic music, so to speak. The first part will be published in October, the second in April.

eclipsed: In the "Electronica" project, you tell the story of electronic music and its legacy from your perspective on two albums. How much time did you put into this project?

Men From Spectre

Lavalampen-Lambada - MEN FROM S.P.E.C.T.R.E. could conquer the dancefloor with a wacky psych sound

The English Spectre means in German "Schemen", "Phantom" or "Geist". In bond movies like "fireball," it was short for a criminal organization. The new bond that the whole world is waiting for even bears the title "Spectre". What could be a better promotion for the five bad guys of the Swiss formation Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.? She doesn't need them at all, her sound is hot and authentic enough to take over the world even without a Walther PPK in the touch. It is characterized by a full-fat sixties organ, psychedelic guitar distortions and driving rhythms.

Hitchcock in slow motion - Doom specialists AVATARIUM present their Opus magnum

"The idea for Avatarium was actually born out of a beer mood," laughs Marcus Jidell (ex-Evergrey, ex-Royal Hunt), guitarist of the Stockholm band. "At a party Leif [Edling; Candlemass] and Mikael Åkerfeldt [Opeth] wanted to start a Doom project. But since Mikael had a lot to do with his band, it didn't work out at first. Leif then wrote some songs relatively quickly and I helped him to record the numbers - I think they were 'Moonhorse', 'Lady In The Lamp' and 'Boneflower'. Suddenly we noticed that the whole thing sounded quite promising and decided to continue in this direction.

EUROPE - Interview with John Norum

eclipsed: A few months ago an album called "War Of Kings" was released, which was met with excellent to euphoric reviews and enthusiastic fans. Isn't that every musician's dream?

John Norum: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't typically have to explain why and why "War Of Kings" is our best album. The press and our fans are already doing that for us. With so much praise, sometimes you have to pinch yourself.

eclipsed: Is it really your best album, as not only eclipsed magazine wrote? How do you watch War Of Kings a few months apart?

LUCIFER'S FRIEND - The Heavy Rock Experiment

They were never mega stars. But Lucifer's Friend have been recognized in insider circles since their foundation in 1970 as national co-founders of progressive hard rock. Especially their first five albums, released between 1970 and 1976, were appreciated by the heavy faction for their variety. After the fifth record, "Mind Exploding", charismatic singer John Lawton then moved to Uriah Heep to free up space for frontman Mike Starrs. In 1981, however, Lawton returned to his "devilish friends" for one last work, "Mean Machine". Then it was over.

U2 - The ultimate live band

THE WAR TOUR (1.12.1981 - 30.11.1983)

Saturday, 20 August 1983: WDR broadcasts the "Rockpalast" open air from the Loreley - with a singer in a black T-shirt, black jeans and a storm hairstyle, as if Elvis had been caught in the engine of a jumbo. A guy with insane charisma who sings hymnal songs about bloody workers' uprisings, gets a girl from the audience to dance on stage and marches through the rows of spectators with a white flag. In addition there is a guitarist who fires one staccatoriff after the other and an incredibly tight rhythm section.

QUEENSRŸCHE - Again in the feel-good zone

Drummer Scott Rockenfield answered our questions at the end of July before the performance at the Turock in Essen, while guitarist Michael Wilton a few weeks later swaggered at the Dortmund headquarters of his record company Century Media about his regained musical freedom. Wilton was very focused and always steered the conversation towards the new album, but when asked about Geoff Tate he seemed a bit dogged, whereas Rockenfield wished his ex-bandleader all the best.
