Schöppingen - ... has the blues in his blood! For this year's Blues Festival on the Whitsun weekend (30 and 31 May) the freshly crowned Grammy winner will take to the stage: Ranky Tanky, a Charleston-based band, won a Grammy Award in the American Roots Music category for their current album "Good Time" at the end of January.
Crossover - fusion - is the motto of the 29th festival, because blues has many facets. In the forties in the USA, a very precise distinction was made: did a music title belong to the genre of white country and western style? Or did it belong more to black rhythm and blues? Those days are long gone, and the blues has become a multi-layered genre. There are so many different rhythms floating around that are just fun to discover.
After more than a year of intensive research, the organizers have once again put together a program with renowned artists, with a wide mix of music from traditional to rock and soulful funky blues, jazzy or country style, southern rock to music from the Gullah culture and classic gospel blues
Once again, some musicians and bands will be guests who have never performed in Germany before as well as artists who are considered real insider tips, but who are already strongly celebrated in the scene. (PR)
